Man Waives Hearing for Bludgeoning Roommate with Sledgehammer

The Hampton murder case against Peter Bartoloni, 70, a registered sex offender, now moves to superior court.

A local 70-year-old registered sex offender waived his probable cause hearing Wednesday on charges alleging he murdered his roommate with a sledgehammer earlier this month.

Peter Bartoloni, 70, of Hampton, faces two counts of second-degree murder for allegedly killing Robert Roderick, 56, of 19 M St., Apt. 2 on Oct. 3.

Bartoloni was scheduled for a probable cause hearing Thursday morning in Hampton District Court, although court staff said the hearing was waived Wednesday afternoon.

The case will now be bound over to Rockingham Superior Court.

Bartoloni was held without bail following a video arraignment from his jail cell last week.

The affidavit for the second-degree murder charges, both felonies, is still sealed.

During last week's arraignment on the charges, Bartoloni was also arraigned for failure to register as a sex offender with Hampton Police after moving to Hampton Beach more than five years ago, according to court documents.

Court documents show that Bartoloni was convicted as a Level 3 sex offender in Massachusetts in 1990 and that he last registered his status with the Lowell, Mass. Department before moving to Hampton Beach.
