Town Meeting, Election Season Getting Into Full Gear

The filing periods for a number of town and school elected offices in Hampton and North Hampton open Wednesday.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Jan. 31 to apply for the positions. Hampton and Winnacunnet High School candidates should apply at the Hampton Town Clerk's Office at Town Hall, while North Hampton candidates should apply at the North Hampton Town Clerk's Office.

Rusty Bridle, Andrea Shepard and Fran Henderson are among the candidates who have already announced that they will seek office.

Here's a breakdown of the open positions and the associated deliberative sessions and town meeting polling hours:

HAMPTON

1 Selectman (One-year term, seat currently held by Mike Plouffe)
2 Selectmen (Three-year terms, seats currently held by Chairman Dick Nichols and Vice Chairman Mike Pierce)
1 Budget committee member (One-year term)

The town deliberative session will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, in the Winnacunnet High School auditorium.

The Hampton School District deliberative session will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the Hampton Academy cafeteria.

Town and school elections and the annual warrant article voting for each entity will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, in the Winnacunnet High School dining hall.

NORTH HAMPTON

The following town positions are open:

1 Selectman (Three-year term)
1 Town treasurer (One-year term)
1 Supervisor of the checklist (Six-year term)
1 Library trustee (Three-year term)
2 Budget committee members (Three-year terms)
1 Cemetery trustee (Three-year term)
2 Planning board members (Three-year terms)
1 Water commissioner (Three-year term)
2 Zoning board members (Three-year terms)
1 Trustee of the trust funds (Three-year term)
1 North Hampton School Board member (Three-year term)


The town of North Hampton’s deliberative session will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, at North Hampton School. The session has been moved from Town Hall to the school to ensure residents have a chance to voice their opinion on the municipal complex project, which is expected to draw a strong turnout.

The North Hampton School deliberative session will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Town and school elections and the annual warrant article voting for each entity will take place at North Hampton Town Hall from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11.


WINNACUNNET HIGH SCHOOL


The following positions are open: 
1 School board member representing Hampton Falls (Three-year term)*
1 School board member representing Seabrook (Three-year term)*
1 Budget committee member representing Hampton Falls (Three-year term)*
1 Budget committee member representing Seabrook (Three-year term)*
1 Moderator (One-year term)

*[Editor's note: All four towns within the Winnacunnet School District — Hampton, North Hampton, Seabrook and Hampton Falls — vote to elect individuals to these positions, not just the town in which the seat represents]

The Winnacunnet High School deliberative session will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the school.

Residents should vote in the annual elections and vote on the annual WHS warrant articles during the respective town meeting balloting periods in their towns on Tuesday, March 11.
