Trash Changes Take Effect Today

Hampton has proposed another change to one of its the most-discussed services — curbside trash and recycling collection — in the hopes it can once again improve the program's overall efficiency.

Starting Monday, the collection day for dozens of local streets will be changed after recording devices attached to the towns' trucks helped show that the overall work being performed could be "level[ed] out" if the routes were redrawn, according to Town Manager Fred Welch.

"They’re trying to even out the routes so they’ll be more efficient and effective," said Welch.

The full list of affected streets can be found here

Welch said any streets not listed won't be affected by the route changes, which he said the town will be "trying" for the next three months "to see if it works."

The new routes may also allow Hampton Public Works employees to assist members of the town's Highway Department after completing the trash routes and responsibilities, according to Welch.
