100-Foot Beach Contel Again Going Up for Approval

Changes have been made to the eight-story proposal, which will soon be publicly vetted for a second time.

Roughly one month after being met with a sizable amount of opposition, the developers behind a proposed 100-foot-tall contel for Hampton Beach's A Block have once again filed a petition for the project with the town's Zoning Board.

Green and Co. Building and Development Corporation will appear before the board on Oct. 17 to seek approval for their eight-story rental property idea at 275 Ocean Blvd., according to board member Tom McGuirk.

McGuirk said the revised application isn't much different from the proposal that was withdrawn in August after developers found the response to be less-than-favorable during a planning board public hearing.

The most notable changes are some alterations to the building's facade. Windows "and some other features" have been added to the northern and southern faces of the structure "to break up" the "big wall[s]" originally proposed for those spaces, according to McGuirk.

There are no changes to the overall height of the project, the proposed setbacks or the number of units within the structure — all issues that have been discussed by various officials so far.

Some officials are in favor of the project, though, stating it could be "conducive" to the kind of change that Hampton Beach wants.

The hearing on the revised proposal is expected to be the first item of business on the Oct. 17 agenda.
