Man Wanted for Impersonating Hampton Police Officer

A man in what has appeared to be an unmarked police cruiser has flashed a badge while talking with drivers, although police say he isn't a cop.

Hampton authorities are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who has allegedly pretended to be an officer in an unmarked car along Exeter Road.

Lt. Dan Gidley said a man with a badge pulled over vehicles and approached drivers near Bonta on Route 27 during the month of September, although Gidley said the individual wasn't in uniform and wasn't an actual member of the Hampton Police Department.

Gidley is asking anyone who has had contact with someone who "was not clearly identified" as a member of a New Hampshire law enforcement agency or anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the department at (603) 929-4444 or the Crimeline for the Hamptons at (603) 929-1222.
