Part of Route 1 has been closed due to a reported standoff at a home near the Poker Room.

ORIGINAL STORY (1:20 p.m.):
Roughly a dozen New Hampshire State Police cruisers have reportedly responded to a home near the Hampton Falls/Seabrook town line on Route 1 due to a possible hostage situation at a home in the area, according to emergency radio communications and Hampton-North Hampton Patch readers.

RELATED STORIES:

Emergency radio communications have indicated that Route 1 in that area has reportedly been closed down, and additional state police cruisers were requested.

State Police Lt. Chris Vetter, when reached by phone around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, declined comment about the matter because he said he was "tied up" with something.

A local public safety official told Patch that officers had their weapons drawn outside of the home, not far from the Poker Room in Hampton Falls. Residents in the area are reportedly not being allowed to enter their homes.

New Hampshire State Police Lt. Nicole Armaganian told Patch in an e-mail that the Hampton Falls Police Department called for their assistance with an incident involving "suspicious activity." Additional details weren't immediately available.

Emergency radio communications have requested that school buses avoid the area. Drivers are also being asked to use alternate routes through the area.
