Man Arrested After Firing Gun at Person in 'Scuffle'

Seventy-year-old James Clark allegedly discharged the weapon at another individual during a fight about work he was performing.

A Hampton man is facing a felony charge after firing a gun at another individual after a disagreement broke out at a site on which he was working on Lafayette Road.

James Clark, 70, of Hampton, was charged with reckless conduct for discharging a firearm in the direction of another person after a "dispute erupted over work to be completed and payment for that work" at 548 Lafayette Road at about 3:20 p.m. on Friday, according to Hampton Police Lt. Dan Gidley.

Gidley said there were multiple victims in the incident, although he said no one was injured. Gidley described the incident as a "scuffle," and said it's still under investigation.

Clark allegedly left the scene after discharging the weapon, and police stopped his vehicle on Route 101 after receiving information about his vehicle from one of the victims, said Gidley.

Clark was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and was ordered to surrender his firearms. The man is due for arraignment on May 8.
