Gidley said his department investigated a burglary on Falcone Circle on Monday and found $15,000 in property was allegedly stolen while the homeowners were "away on vacation." Investigators interviewed Penney after receiving tips about the alleged crime, and following the interview Penney was identified as a suspect, according to Gidley.

Gidley said investigators found "thousands of dollars" worth of stolen property related to the Falcone Circle incident while searching both a wooded area in Hampton and a dumpster at 340 Lafayette Road. Search warrants were later executed at the homes of Penney and Kelley, and during the execution of those warrants Gidley said police found "additional stolen items" related to the Falcone Circle burglary as well as items connected to "multiple" car break-ins in Portsmouth and Rye.
