The bodies of two men were recovered from the Hampton River Friday, and police have ruled the individuals' deaths "untimely."

Hampton Police Chief Jamie Sullivan said the first body was recovered after it was reported floating in the Hampton River near the Hampton River Marina Boat Club on Landing Road around 10:47 a.m.

A small, private boat was used to recover the body. Sullivan said a second body was recovered around noon after officers on the scene noticed the individual floating in the water.

Police are withholding the names of the individuals as well as specific information about their identities until family members can be notified. Sullivan declined to speak to how long the bodies were in the water, as well as answer other specific questions about the investigation and possible causes of death.

Autopsies are scheduled for Saturday. Sullivan said he would wait until the autopsies have been completed before making a determination about whether foul play was involved in the individuals' deaths.

New Hampshire State Police and Marine Patrol assisted in the investigation.

The area was closed off for multiple hours while the agencies investigated the scene. A Hampton animal control vehicle was seen leaving the boat club around 3:30 p.m, although no other law enforcement vehicles were still present at that time.
