Brain Injury Survivor Can Now Stand, Wash Face [VIDEO]

A North Hampton woman is making significant strides in her recovery from a traumatic brain injury.

Just a year ago, it was uncertain what the future held for Myla Gott, a 21-year-old North Hampton resident who has been in a wheelchair since .

Friends and family members were optimistic Gott, an aspiring lawyer, could one day regain motor function based on small signs of progress, although those small signs have recently turned into significant milestones as Myla Gott has regained more and more control of her limbs.

In the video attached to this story and posted here on the Support for Myla Facebook page, Myla Gott can be seen washing her face using one arm and a hand towel, something she previously was unable to do. Other videos show her standing, turning and sitting down in her wheelchair, which is something she was unable to do until recently.

Bill Gott has credited much of his daughter's progress to her determination, as well as specialized and expensive , which have been shown to increase brain function in patients with traumatic brain injuries.

Bill Gott said he's currently attempting to raise $10,000 for another 80 HBOT sessions, and said he's looking for the community's help to reach that goal. Anyone interested in donating can put money in The Gott Recovery Fund by visiting in Hampton or the bank branches in Portsmouth and Exeter.

The progress with Myla Gott's motor control has been steadily increasing over the past year, thanks to various . Over that time she's and has been able write using a pen and paper.

Myla Gott has also been using, to great success, a therapy-based neurofeedback video game that she operates with only her brainwaves, which Bill Gott feels "shows great improvement for Myla."
