Smuttynose Featured on Emmy-Winning 'Breaking Bad'
The local brewers say it was a "thrill" to have been in a key scene Sunday in the award-winning AMC series.
A local brewery got a taste of the national TV spotlight Sunday night, courtesy of a small cameo during an episode of AMC's "Breaking Bad."
The logo of Hampton's Smuttynose Brewing Company was used to enhance the background of a pivotal bar scene near the end of Sunday's episode, which was titled "Granite State" and had various references to New Hampshire.
The episode was the second-to-last in the critically-acclaimed series, which also won the Emmy for "Outstanding Drama" on Sunday.
Smuttynose's logo is shown over the right shoulder of Bryan Cranston's character Walter White, the lead character of the series, near the end of the episode. White, a high school chemistry teacher who became a meth kingpin following a diagnosis with inoperable lung cancer, uses a bar payphone to make two calls that will dramatically impact the character's future before sitting down at a bar opposite the Smuttynose sign.
Several individuals have posted on Facebook about the inclusion of the Smuttynose logo, including the brewery itself.
"We saw it and have had many friends and fans sending us messages..." wrote Smuttynose on its Facebook page. "It's been a thrill for sure!"
