Dead Seals Found on Area Beaches

Marine biologists are attempting to determine why there's been a rash of seal carcasses on local beaches.

At least nine dead seals washed ashore on beaches in Rye and Hampton Thursday, and researchers are attempting to determine why and if the deaths are connected.

WMUR.com reported that residents found six seals at Jenness State Beach, two at Wallis Sands State Beach and one in Hampton, while a surfer at Jenness State Beach reported seeing more deal seals floating in the water.

A spokesman for the New England Aquarium in Boston told WMUR that aquarium experts have retrieved some of the carcasses, some of which were badly decomposed, to try and determine why they died.
