Marelli's Holding Another Poetry Night Saturday

This week's celebrates National Poetry Month.

April is National Poetry Month. Join other poets and supporters of the arts at Marelli’s Market in downtown Hampton on Saturday, April 21, 6 to 8 p.m. It is a good excuse to turn off the TV and meet your neighbors in a cozy, quiet setting that will remind you of an artist’s hideout. Read a poem of your own or honor your favorite poet by reading their poem, or just relax and take it all in. First Marelli's Poetry Night a Success

The well-attended session will likely lead to another.

By Karen Raynes   This first poetry gathering at Marelli's Market took place in the cozy back room art galley of the the store. Poets, writers and friends came together to share the common bond of fellow artists.   The theme was "Talk about Love, Flowers and Broken Hearts."   The main contributor to the show was Matt Gillis. He was introduced by Marcia Hannon as an expressive, soulful, flamboyant, talented, and entertaining poet. He did not disappoint with his powerful poems including his last poem of the night about love that as he stepped to the podium he rolled from a large scroll across the floor.   The podium itself was a work of art, which Matt's friend Rhonda had made for the event. Marelli's Seeking Local Poets, Artists

All the store's a stage next weekend.

Get those snapping fingers ready, as Marelli's Market wants you to put them to good use next weekend as a part of the downtown Hampton business' first poetry night of the year. Poetry Night with Matt is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, and this month's theme is "Talk about Love, Flowers and Broken Hearts." Artists of all genres are invited to come and enjoy a comfortable atmosphere to listen, share, enjoy a common bond with likeminded individuals and sample some good coffee. Poets, writers, spoken wordsmiths and other artists can call 418-5322 to reserve a spot.
