Dems Call on GOP Candidates to Denounce O'Keefe

Ovide Lamontagne, Kevin Smith, Frank Guinta and Charles Bass were invited to Sunday's gala in Rye featuring the right-wing activist.

The New Hampshire Democratic Party is calling on Republican gubernatorial candidates Ovide Lamontagne and Kevin Smith and Congressmen Frank Guinta and Charles Bass to refuse to attend a GOP gala in Rye on Sunday because right-wing activist James O'Keefe will be in attendance. In a conference call Thursday, New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley and former party Chairman Kathy Sullivan said the GOP candidates should refuse to stand with O'Keefe. "I'm really disappointed that the Republican Party would have someone like Mr. O'Keefe come into New Hampshire on their behalf," Sullivan said. Gov. Lynch To Announce His Plans

Do you think the four-term Democrat should pursue a fifth term in office?

Gov. John Lynch will "discuss his future plans" tomorrow morning in Manchester, his office just announced. Lynch, 58, is a Democrat from Hopkinton. He was president and CEO of Knoll Inc., a national furniture manufacturer. A University of New Hampshire grad with a business degree from Harvard, he is a past chairman of the board of trustees for the state university system. But enough bio. Will he or won't he? A long-time Democrat tells Patch that insiders say Lynch will not run again, based on scant fund-raising activity. There's also word that some Lynch supporters have slowly matriculated over to former state Sen. Maggie Hassan, a Democrat from Exeter. It will be interesting to see what his decision is and the reasons why. I hope it isn't because he has a Legislature that is controlled by Republicans. For most of his tenure, Republicans have controlled the Legislature. In addition, things change, it moves back and forth. He seems to love the job, and that's always a good thing when it comes to public service and elected officials.   more ›
