The governor said a "rising tide will lift all boats."
As Gov. John Lynch looked across the sandy expanses of Hampton Beach from atop the Seashell Complex Wednesday, what he saw was a chance for newfound prosperity — not a chance for the state to drive out local businesses. Lynch took a special tour of the newly-completed Oceanfront Pavilion facilities, a state-owned complex that's been hit recently with a tide of concerns and outrage due to the fact the state is selling concessions on the land. Many residents have claimed the state is violating the terms of the 1933 deal that granted them the land by selling items. Lynch said Wednesday he didn't see it that way, though, stating the state is trying to create a year-round facility that will help stretch the tourism season and increase overall …

Students will compete at Winnacunnet on March 31.
A team of students from North Hampton School and Hampton Falls' Lincoln Ackerman School qualified for the Destination ImagiNation State Finals with an impressive showing over the weekend in Kingston. The teams were two of several sent by the local schools — including six total Lincoln Ackerman School teams — for the regional competition, held on Saturday, March 17. Winnacunnet High School students also competed but didn't qualify for the finals, which will be held on Saturday, March 31, at Winnacunnet High School starting at 7:30 a.m. Creative problem solving, collaboration and communication skills of over 1,200 New Hampshire students were put to the test during the 172-team competition. Destination ImagiNation is the world’s largest …

Hampton students placed well and displayed award-worthy sportsmanship.
Three Hampton Academy wrestlers qualified for the Youth New England Wrestling Championship through impressive performances in Sunday's "Meet of Champions" state championship tournament. First-place regional winner Ryan Boyle placed second Sunday in his weight class (140- pound class), while third-place regional winner John Ferrelli (103-pound class) placed fourth, and fourth-place regional winner Jared McCann (70-pound novice class) placed fifth, according to coach Alex Reno. Reno said he was honored to have those individuals represent Hampton at the New England tournament in Nashua on March 10 and 11, although he also said he took great pride in the performance of all of his wrestlers because collectively their spirit helped Hampton …

Several students placed well at the state regional tourney.
Hampton Academy student Ryan Boyle took home first place in his weight class and many other students took home high honors during the recent N.H. Middle School Regional Wrestling tournament in Concord. According to coach Alex Reno, 18 teams competed in the tournament, and the top six wrestlers from each weight class will advance to the "Meet of Champions" state championship in Litchfield on Sunday. Hampton Academy placed 6th in overall team points at the regionals, and the following is a list of the Hampton students who placed in the Top 6 in their respective weight classes: Reno said there was also a "great effort put forth" during regionals by Hampton students Cooper Pennfield, Cole Albert, Alex Larson, Connor Newton, Cole Marzinzik and …

Ten students will square off Thursday in the annual WHS event.
Under most circumstances, a poetry night by any other name would be just as enjoyable, although 10 Winnacunnet High School students have a chance Thursday to get more than just an emotional response out of their orations. On Thursday night, WHS will host its annual Poetry Out Loud Competition, a popular event held at the school since 2005 as a way for teen writers, public speakers, beatniks and aspiring artists to put their skills to the test for a shot at $15,000 in scholarship money and a chance to get to the national contest. This year's competitors look to be the first to take the road not taken, as no Winnacunnet student has ever advanced to the national stage. Local contest co-coordinator Kit Rodgers, a WHS English and theater …

Local firefighters get ready for Thursday's 5th annual Chowdah Challenge, which benefits burn research.
Area "chowdah" lovers will get a chance to dive into a variety of creamy concoctions Thursday while raising money for burn victims and research as a part of Professional Firefighters Local 2664's annual Chowdah Challenge in Hampton. Firefighter Jason Newman, the vice president of the Hampton firefighters union, said preparations are almost complete for the fifth year of the event, which will feature between 20 and 30 self-proclaimed chowder connoisseurs and restaurants vying for the top prize. Newman said the night is always a "blast" because the cooking can get "pretty competitive," although he said he most enjoys the fact that between 150 and 200 people routinely turn out each year to raise money for the International Association of …

Yes indeed the very same controversy has arisen many times, just as you say. Each time, except now, the people in government included enough people that still deemed contracts as sacrosanct – inviolable; a sense of responsibility to honor contracts. Today, finally we are putting an end to this never ending controversy by the ever expedient means of surrendering. Yes, we are surrendering the ethic…   more ›
