Officials say Hampton's former town office building could be demolished as early as next week.
Preparations are nearly complete as Hampton gets ready to officially bid farewell to its former governmental home. Crews have disconnected the power and other utilities from the old Town Hall building, located at 136 Winnacunnet Road, and Deputy Public Works Director Chris Jacobs said he is a few signatures away from securing a demolition permit for the outdated structure. A backhoe and demolition fence are already on the property, and while Jacobs said there is "no set date," he and others said the building could be razed as early as Wednesday or Thursday next week. Locals are hoping their most recent efforts for a community center in Hampton will finally result in the cultural center's creation, although work needs to be done before that happens.
