You are right Mary Ellen. No second grader should have that responsibility. Unfortunately, forRead More several different reasons, this is becoming more and more common and that is why a program like this is so valuable. Sometimes removal is the best option. More often the parents just need some help. This program is extending a helping hand to parents but more importantly it is ensuring that children are getting some nourishment first thing in the morning.

I agree, I would rather see the child have food for the weekend,,,,, and I am not against helpingRead More the less fortunate, but when a back pack has to be sent on Friday because of parental neglect and that may be all the child eats, society needs to step in,many programs to help parent,,, takes a village to raise a child, I know this problem is in our community and its heartbreaking :(

You are so right Mary Ellen, it is heartbreaking and it does take a village. Hopefully, thisRead More backpack program will shine a light on an area that has been in the shadows and the children affected will get the services they need. This is a great community - one that rises to many challenges, especially those that impact children. Thank you for caring enough to speak out! : )

Occasionally I bump into something written by some NH guy named G. Patton. Very little of it makesRead More much sense to me. His latest rant concerns the Hampton very popular Christmas parade... He's not happy with it. Wants the name changed to something other than "Christmas!" A parade with Santa Claus, Carols, red and green themes....Don't call it Christmas he says. I guess you could call Gary anything you want... But, don't call him intelligent.
