Seacoast Scene: 7 Cool Things to Do this Weekend
To Do List: Enjoy chowder and spirits, and great music at The Music Hall in Portsmouth and the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.
Art, music, beer and chowder: Here are seven cool things to do this weekend in the Seacoast area:
- Great Music at The Music Hall: Poor Old Shine performs Friday, June 6, at 8 p.m., at the Music Hall Loft. Tickets are $22. See the Music Hall's website for more information and to buy tickets. Jonny Lang is on stage at the Historic Theater on Saturday, June 7, at 8 p.m.
- Chow down at Chowder Fest: The 30th annual Chowder Fest is June 7 at Prescott Park in Portsmouth. Prescott Park Arts Festival opens the gates at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. There's family fun, live music and even a live oyster shucking demonstration.
- Tour the new brewery! Smuttynose Brewing Co.'s new facility on Towle Farm in Hampton is now open for public tours. Hours for weekend tours: Fridays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brewery is at 105 Towle Farm Road, Hampton. Their number: (603) 436-4026. Try their new Bouncy House brew (Bouncy House: 5 Questions with Smuttynose Brewing).
- Jerry Lives ... in Spirit: The Dark Star Orchestra plays the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom on June 6 and June 7. Continue the Grateful Dead Concert Experience. See the Casino Ballroom for tickets and information on upcoming shows.
- Book Sale: The Friends of the Lane Memorial Library's semi-annual book sale, featuring thousands of books, continues Friday, June 6, at 9 a.m., at 2 Academy Ave., in Hampton. It's also on June 7, 9 a.m. to noon. See the Friends of the Lane Memorial Library's website for more information.
- Art en Plein Air: Head to the American Independence Museum on Saturday, June 7, to celebrate the tradition of outdoor painting with some of the finest painters from around the Seacoast and New Hampshire.
- Our Old House Festival 2014: The Old House Festival is June 7, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., which celebrates the Moffatt-Ladd Garden with special presentations and activities for all ages.
