Soaring Into Sochi: Lago Aims for Top-3 Olympic Berth

Seabrook native and Olympic bronze medal-winning snowboarder Scotty Lago will attempt to secure his spot for the Sochi Games on Sunday during the fifth and final halfpipe qualifier.

Lago, 26, who finished second behind 2010 gold medalist Shaun White during the fourth qualifier on Friday, is one of only four riders that can mathematically secure a top three spot for the 2014 Olympics, according to the Lago family.

NBC will broadcast the final qualifier on TV at 3 p.m. Sunday. A live stream will also be available here.

Lago told USSnowboarding.com that he's excited for his chance to return to the Olympic Games.

"Today was like the gnarliest day ever with two contests," Lago said Friday following the fourth qualifier. "But I’m pumped. Really, I needed it to have a shot. Well, I’m really not that pumped, because I still have to get a second on Sunday and with Shaun competing that’s like getting first. I really like the pipe and I think I can do it, so we’ll see."
