WHS Again Using Empty Bowls to Fill Empty Stomachs

The Winnacunnet High School Art Department and Interact Club is inviting students and community members to enjoy a warm meal this weekend to raise funds to fight local hunger.

The annual Empty Bowls event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at WHS, according to Winnacunnet ceramics teacher Sarah Edgar.

The community soup luncheon is open to anyone, and in exchange for a $15 donation diners will receive a handmade ceramic bowl filled with locally-made soup in addition to receiving bread and dessert.

Residents are encouraged to take home their one-of-a-kind bowls, crafted and painted by WHS students, after the event.

Diners who donate $5 will be served their soup in a disposable bowl with bread and a dessert.

This year's soups will be donated by the Old Salt, Las Olas, Fast Eddie's, the Galley Hatch, and the 401 Tavern. Panera Bread will donate the various breads for the event, while the desserts will be donated by Alden Merrell.

In the event of snow, Empty Bowls will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1.
