Hampton Teacher Placed on Leave of Absence

Hampton School District administrators have placed a fifth grade teacher at Marston School on a leave of absence for an undetermined amount of time.

Superintendent Kathleen Murphy said Joshua Evans, a teacher in his fourth year in the Hampton School District, was placed on leave on Nov. 6. The leave of absence officially began on Nov. 7.

As with all district personnel matters, Murphy said she was "not at liberty to discuss the matter" in specific detail. Murphy was able to say that the leave has nothing to do with student safety concerns, and she said the district is "supporting our teacher."

"I have a responsibility to not only protect the children... but I also have a responsibility to the employees," said Murphy. "I have to protect him, too."

Parents of the children in Evans' class have been notified about the leave of absence, and a certified full-time teacher has fulfilled Evans' responsibilities since Nov. 12, according to Murphy.
