2-Year Teachers Contract Ratified; Sides to Explore 'Effectiveness Compensation'

The deal calls for increases, but the school board and teachers will now explore compensation based on "teacher effectiveness," in addition to other possible changes.

The Hampton School District and the Hampton Teachers (Seacoast Education Association) are pleased to announce that the parties have reached a settlement providing for a two-year contract for the teaching and professional staff in the Hampton School District. 

The two groups reached a settlement that has been approved by their respective bodies. The Hampton professional staff voted to support the agreement on January 9th and the School Board has voted unanimously to support the settlement.

The approved contract will award teachers within the salary scale one step increase only in each of the two years. Teachers at or off the top of the scale will receive a 1.7 percent cost of living adjustment in year one and a 1.9 percent adjustment in year two of the contract. 

In addition, the school board and the teachers agreed to explore compensation based on teacher effectiveness and consider the development of a career ladder approach to teacher leaders. Included in the agreement are a number of items that will bring clarification to degree changes as well as awarding compensation for additional educational credits.

The fiscal impact of this proposal will be realized in Article 2 of the Hampton School District’s warrant that will go before the voters on March 11.
