Shea-Porter in Normandy for 70th Anniversary of D-Day

The NH congresswoman will participate in ceremonies on the 70th anniversary of the Allied Invasion on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) is in Normandy, France, to mark the 70th anniversary of the Allied Invasion on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

Shea-Porter is part of a congressional delegation, including House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA), to recognize the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the American and Allied forces who helped liberate Europe during World War II, her office said.

Ceremonies are being held at Omaha Beach, Sword Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery.

President Barack Obama and French President François Hollande will join the delegation for the ceremonies, which will include paratroopers, veterans, and children.
