Snow Blowing Across Road Causes Rollover Crash in Hampton

Two individuals suffered minor injuries and a local street was closed Sunday afternoon after a car rolled due to high winds that blew snow off nearby properties and into traffic.

Hampton Police Lt. Dan Gidley said his department was called to the area of 389 Exeter Road at 12:04 p.m. Sunday after a vehicle rolled over during a single vehicle crash.

"It was due to road conditions caused by the wind and the snow," he said. "Snow from yards out there blew into the road just in one area. Cars... were suddenly confronted with snow across the road due to the wind."

At least one of the two women in the car, according to emergency radio communications, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital as a result of the crash.

Gidley said no charges have been issued in connection to the crash, which caused unknown damage to the vehicle.

Exeter Road was shut down "for a short time" while emergency responders were on scene, according to Gidley.

The vehicle was traveling between 30 and 35 miles per hour before the rollover, and Gidley urged drivers to "slow down" during periods of high wind or hazardous road conditions because Sunday's crash was the third or fourth crash of its kind "in the past few months."

"People have just been driving way too fast," he said.
