Shark Possibly Sighted Off Seacoast Beach

A beachgoer spotted what may have been a shark fin off the coast Wednesday.

Seabrook authorities responded to the beach mid Wednesday morning after an individual reported seeing what looked like a shark fin in the water, according to Seabrook police.

Police said the call came in at 10:43 a.m., although the animal control officer was unable to locate a shark or a fin-like object upon arriving at the beach.

Hampton Beach Lifeguard Capt. Alex Valoughli said he had no information about a possible shark sighting, although he said shark sightings have been reported in that area in the past.

Valoughli said swimmers shouldn't worry, though. He said the "only sharks sightings" they've had in the past in that area are basking sharks, which feed off plankton and are harmless to humans, and other non-aggressive types of shark.

Seabrook's animal control officer couldn't immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
