Man, Possibly Armed, Wanted in Pet Store Robbery

A suspect claiming to have a knife got into an altercation with a clerk after trying to steal one of the store's cash registers.

UPDATE (7 p.m.): A 5-foot, 8-inch white man with a medium build is wanted by authorities for attempting to rob Pet City at 185 Lafayette Road in Seabrook Wednesday afternoon.

Sgt. Brett Walker said the man allegedly attempted to remove the pet store's cash register around 5 p.m. Wednesday. The man was stopped by a clerk in the store, at which point the suspect allegedly demanded money and claimed he was armed with a knife, according to Walker.

The man fled the store after an altercation, running to a waiting car in the adjacent Tobacco Depot parking lot. The vehicle — a blue Chevrolet Cavalier with Massachusetts registration 372-TTV, according to emergency radio communications — fled south on Lafayette Road.

No one was injured during the attempted robbery.

Walker said the suspect was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a knit hat.

Seabrook patrol officers and detectives responded to the scene and gathered evidence.

The Seabrook Police Department has issued an alert for a blue Chevrolet Cavalier with Massachusetts registration 372-TTV in connection to a robbery at Pet City on Lafayette Road (Route 1).

The alert was issued around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Anyone with information about the vehicle or the robbery is asked to contact the department at (603) 474-5200.
