Police Catch Man Who Pretended to Be Cop in Hampton

A Newmarket man has been charged with three felony counts in connection to a year's worth of incidents in three local communities.

Michael Heath, 42, of Newmarket, has been charged with three counts of felony false personation for using a military police badge and blue vehicle light to pull over drivers in Hampton, Stratham and Epping for over a year, according to the Union Leader.

The Union Leader has reported that Heath waived a probable cause hearing in the Hampton case last week, and that he allegedly told Hampton police during a Sept. 13 interview that he has stopped drivers in a variety of other area communities. Those alleged stops, for which Heath hasn't been charged, include Hampton Falls, Portsmouth, Newington, Newfields, and Kittery, Maine, in addition to areas along the Spaulding Turnpike, along Interstate 495 in Massachusetts, and along Interstate 95 in Maine, according to the Union Leader.

The Hampton Police Department issued a press release on Nov. 21 asking for information about a man pretending to be an officer in an unmarked car along Exeter Road.
