Deceased Kayaker Identified as Ann Colcord, of North Hampton

Her body was found Tuesday after her capsized boat was found in Newfields Monday night.

Authorities have recovered the body of a kayaker who went missing Monday night.

Ann Colcord, 59, of North Hampton, was found in the Squamscott River near the border of Stratham and Newfields.

She launched her kayak out of Chapman's Landing in Stratham Monday night. Her capsized kayak was found by authorities later that night in the Squamscott River in Newfields, about a quarter of a mile from the landing.

Lt. Michael Eastman of New Hampshire Fish & Game said it appeared she had some of sort of accident. The state Medical Examiner was at the scene for an investigation into the exact cause of her death.

Eastman said Colcord had a life vest in her kayak but was not wearing it.

Her body was found around noon Tuesday in about 10 feet of water, Eastman said.

A large search involving at least five rescue boats was conducted to recover her body. Officials from the U.S. Coast Guard, N.H. Marine Patrol, Fish & Game, Newfields Police, Stratham Police, Exeter Fire, Newfields Fire, Newmarket Fire, and State Police—among other organizations—were involved in the effort.
