Darriean Hess' Fiancé to Be Arraigned Wednesday

Scott Martin will answer to his involvement in the events that led to a crash that killed two cyclists in Hampton last month.

The Seabrook man accused of allowing Darriean Hess to illegally drive his car not long before she caused a fatal Hampton crash will be arraigned in Hampton District Court at 8:30 a.m.

Scott Martin, 19, will be arraigned on a violation-level offense of allowing an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. Police allege he knowingly let Hess, his fiancée, get back behind the wheel of his car after a speeding stop on Sept. 21 even though he knew she didn't have a driver's license.

Hess, whom police have said was on a strong prescription painkiller given to her by an alleged drug dealer, soon after caused a crash that killed two cyclists on Hampton's Neil R. Underwood Memorial Bridge.

Martin was issued a summons for the offense five days after the crash.

Hess, 19, also of Seabrook, is facing charges of negligent homicide and second degree assault in connection with the incident. The alleged drug dealer, Cindy Sheppard, 48, of 51 Ocean Blvd., Apt. 5, in Hampton, has also been charged in connection to the incident.
