VIDEO: Why Residents Will Watch Tonight's Debate

Residents talk about why they are interested or not interested in tonight's GOP debate

Patch recently went out and approached 21 residents with questions about what they are hoping to get out of tonight's GOP debate -- the first primary debate in New Hampshire -- and why it does or doesn't appeal to them.

Out of the 21 residents spoken with, 10 said they planned to watch the debate for a variety of reasons, including: they want to see who emerges as the best conservative candidate; they belong to a different political party but want to stay informed; they are unhappy with the current administration and want to see what others would do if elected; or because debates are interesting, fun, or a great way to listen to candidates make factual errors.

Seven, on the other hand, said they didn't plan to watch the debate because: they aren't interested in politics; they'll start paying attention once it gets closer to the 2012 election and the real candidates are decided; they don't feel their voice is heard; or because they are too busy, don't want anything to do with the Republican party, or don't feel like it is a good way to spend their time.

Four residents declined to speak with Patch.

, and you can watch the debate live on WMUR-TV from 8 to 10 p.m. Patch will have coverage, although we want to know what you think.

What do you hope to get out of the debate? Why is it something that appeals to you? Is there a candidate (in any party) you support, or would never support, and why? What do you think is the key issue and why?

We also want to know who you think "won" the debate, as well as your general impressions of the conversation. If you would like to be contacted by Patch after the debate to give your feedback, e-mail the editor at Kyle.Stucker@Patch.com.
