Former Hampton Superintendent David Brown Laid to Rest
David Brown, 71, brought roughly 40 years of experience with him when he came to SAU 21 in the early 2000s.
David Milo Brown passed away peacefully in his home on November 18, 2013 after a lingering illness. The son of Mrs. Rachel Brown, he was born on February 10, 1942 in Portsmouth, NH. He spent his childhood in Laconia, NH and graduated from Laconia High School in June of 1960. He later attended Keene State College where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education in June of 1964 and his Master's in Education in June of 1967. He continued his studies at Northeastern University completing a Certificate of Advanced Studies in the Graduate School of Education Administration in June of 1976.
Mr. Browns career in education started as a teacher at Nashua High School (1964 - 1967). He later became principal of the Alton Public Schools, grades 1 - 12 (1967 - 1970). He was elected Assistant Superintendent of Schools in NH School Administration Unit #55 serving Timberlane and Hampstead School Districts (1970 - 1977). He served as Superintendent of Schools for the Town of Derry, NH in School Administration Unit #10 for over twenty-five years (1977 - 2002). Before his retirement in 2004 he served as interim Superintendent of Schools for NH Administrative Unit #21 in Hampton, NH. He was a member of the Executive Board of the New England School Development Council (1986 -1994) and was elected chairman in 1992; he was a member of the American Association of School Administrators, the NH School Administrators Association as well as numerous regional and local education associations and the Derry NH Rotary Club.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna of twenty-six years on June 2, 2012. Together David and Donna enjoyed retirement in Palm Harbor, Florida. They both loved to travel to European countries and their major cities. London, Paris, Rome, Venice, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Budapest, Prague and Copenhagen gave them a bucket full of wonderful memories. There were also many European and Caribbean cruises. Their favorite spot was Aruba. David also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and woodworking projects.
He is survived by his children, daughter Amy Brown-Smith, her husband Dave, grandson Coleman and granddaughter Violet of Saratoga Springs, NY; daughter Molly Brown, her partner James McCarthy and granddaughter Chloe of Lowell, MA; step-daughter Sheryl Nazzaro-Shinault and her husband Steven of Derry, NH and son Matt Brown and his wife Kristin, grandsons Brandon and Carter of Nottingham, NH as well as many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 3 – 7pm on Thursday November 21, 2013 at Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you consider donating the precious gift of blood as often as you are able, as well as monetary donations be made to or register with the National Bone Marrow Donor Program at http://bethematch.org.
