Woman Who Died in Kayaking Accident to Be Mourned Today

A memorial service will be held this week for a local woman who died recently in a kayaking accident.

Ann Colcord, 59, of North Hampton, was killed June 24 on the Squamscott River in Stratham.

Police said Colcord was kayaking by herself when she somehow fell into the river. She had a life jacket but was not wearing it at the time of the accident, police said.

For 23 years, Colcord worked with the local visiting nurse associations, according to her obituary. When she retired, she worked as a paraprofessional for public kindergarten in Hampton.

She volunteered for Seacoast Hospice, Seacoast Family Promise, Seacoast Habitat for Humanity, and the Friends of Kakamega orphanage in Kenya.

"Her calling to make her community and world a better place led her to many wonderful organizations," her obituary reads. "She was a committed foster mother to four children of varying ages in need of a loving and safe home. Her love for those most in need knew no boundaries."

Colcord leaves behind her husband, Jim, and two sons.

A celebration of her life will be held July 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in North Hampton. Visiting hours will be held July 9 from 1-3 and 6-9 p.m. at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home in Hampton.
