Hampton and North Hampton residents' trips to the movies will now be a little bit shorter thanks to the grand opening of a new 10-theater, stadium-style complex on Route 1.
The new Cinemagic movie theater in Portsmouth's Southgate Plaza, located at 2422 Lafayette Road, officially opens Friday with a variety of movie choices and times.
The new theater has 1,280 seats and is located on the north end of the plaza.
Three buildings were torn to make way for the structure — the old Portsmouth Goodwill store, Family Dollar and the Namco pool store. The theater is one of several recent additions to the expanding plaza on the Port City's southern end.

The Portsmouth theater is Cinemagic's eighth in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine.
