Former Congresswoman Shea-Porter Continues to Hide from Her Record, This Time Trying to Censor Local Media

(Manchester – August 24, 2012) Former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is at it again; continuing her record of trying to hide from Granite State voters.  This time she is trying to censor a local cable access television show.

This morning’s New Hampshire Union Leader covered a story about a Bedford community access television producer being pressured by the former Congresswoman to not air an interview taped earlier this week, “a move the host calls censorship.” You can read the full article, here: http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120824/NEWS06/708249974 or read BCTV host/producer Kathy Benuck's take by clicking here.

Derek Dufresne, Spokesman, Guinta for Congress, release the following statement:

“Former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter hasn’t had a single Town Hall meeting, rarely releases a public schedule, and has a website that offers no opportunity for Granite Staters to see where she stands on the most important issues facing our country. Despite the New Hampshire tradition of being open and accessible, it’s no surprise the former Congresswoman is trying to hide from her partisan Washington record once again.”

Kathy Benuck went to all the right-wing sites and got false information and repeated it in her mindless interview. She should have conducted an informative interview on current issues, instead of repeating irrelevant old lies. Her viewers will recognize these phony stories that have been debunked as phony years ago, and wonder why she didn't accept the offer to clean up her work, correct the internet lies, and do a real interview. Interesting how she is pretending someone wants to "censor" her bad work. When I was in school, it was called a second chance to get the facts right and correct your work. Shame on Ms. Benuck!

Since Ms. Benuck won't correct the facts, I will.

Politifact.com rates the 3.8% real estate tax a "pants-on-fire" lie.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/jul/25/chain-email/3-8-percent-tax-real-estate-transactions-health-ca/

Also the realtors are trying to debunk the lie too. See FactCheck.org, Realtors, the 3.8% ‘Sales Tax’ and $247 Medicare Premiums (April 30, 2012 , Updated on July 11, 2012):
Q: Is the National Association of Realtors lobbying to repeal a 3.8 percent “sales tax” on homes before it takes effect in 2013?
A: No. There’s no such “sales tax” in the new health care law. And Medicare premiums aren’t going to $247 either. But these virulent falsehoods keep going around.
MORE
http://www.factcheck.org/2012/04/realtors-the-3-8-sales-tax-and-247-medicare-premiums/
*************************
Washington Post, "Health-care law’s 3.8 percent surtax will not affect many home sellers," http://www.washingtonpost.com/realestate/health-care-laws-38-percent-surtax-will-not-affect-many-home-sellers/2012/07/12/gJQATidFgW_story.html

And as for the alleged vote to impeach George Bush, Ms. Benuck merely displays her ignorance of parliamentary procedure. That was a vote to send the bill back to committee and to kill it.

You know, Susan, that most of us can see right through your spin on here. Sure, you support CSP. That's your choice. But please don't insult the intelligence of readers by trying to make CSP something she is not. She voted with the extreme liberal faction in Congress and ignored the wishes of her constituents. She was voted out of office by those same constituents because she did an extremely poor job of representing them. Try as you may, you can't spin that to make her look good.

From the New Hampshire Journal:

"Two officers of the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Police Department removed Carol Shea-Porter and Susan Mayer from a February 2005 town hall event hosted by then-President George W. Bush at the request of the owner of the property, a spokesman for the Police Department tells NowHampshire.com."

Dump Obama:

> "Two officers of the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Police Department
> removed Carol Shea-Porter and Susan Mayer from a February 2005
> town hall event hosted by then-President George W. Bush at the
> request of the owner of the property,"

So?

That's a badge of honor!

Former President Bush was famous for being protected from facing *ANY* adverse opinion, whether spoken, carried on signs, or worn on Tee-Shirts. Opponents of the President were routinely kept out of events and even out of sight or hearing range of the President.

Many of these actions were later deemed illegal or cases of law enforcement aver-stepping their authority.

This was one of the many ways that the Bush Presidency was a disgrace and applaud Carol Shea-Porter's actions.

I am finding Ms. Mayer's comments to be absolutely hilarious as she tries so hard to spin this story. And I wonder why she never identifies herself in her comments on any site as the Politics and Policy Analyst for the Carol Shea-Porter campaign. Disingenuous, to say the least.

Hey Susan, stop the spin. Kathy didn't say it was a real estate tax. She correctly stated that it was a tax on unearned income. She only used the sale of the house as an example. And, depending upon how much additional unearned income that individual had, Kathy was not wrong. You Dems even spin the fact-checks.

CSP says that she didn't vote with the Dems all the time. Yes, she didn't vote with them 100% of the time, but she did vote with Pelosi 93% of the time. And most of the rest of the 7% of the time she voted against the Dems, it was because it was politically expedient and she knew the bill would pass without her vote.

I just watched this show and don't see where the problem is. Shea-Porter was polite, professional and clear in explaining her positions. The hostess was confused about the real estate tax (I actually had to look it up to understand it myself) but that's because it applies to the income of really rich people and unfortunately, most of us don't make that kind of money. I think more people will want to vote for Shea-Porter after watching this show.

We all know that Carol had a four year run at the District One house seat and her voting record is a matter of public record. Now is the time for her to stand line item by line item on HER voting record as well as for Frank to be willing to stand line item by line item on HIS voting record these past two years to the voters and the people of NH who sent each of them there for their respective terms of office. Seeing that apparently Carol voted with Nancy Pelosi 93% of the time and Nancy Pelois publicly stated that we needed to pass Obamacare so we can find out what is in the bill in MY personal opinion does not speak well of Carol. Not once during the period of debate did I ever see Carol come out in the media with any quantitative points of this bill that were going to be good for NH in the long run.....I find it absolutely absurd that each and everyone of the representatives and senators could read through 2700+ pages of any bill in such a short period of time and end up being a know all expert on any such bill.......I am of the mindset that 2700+ pages of such complex reading would be more than the average college student would be expected to consume and understand in even one college semester on any subject or group of subjects as complicated as Obamacare!

93%? Frank Guinta voted with TODD AKIN 93% of the time -- you know, the guy who believes in “consensual rape." Guinta says ban abortions for rape vicitms, just like Ryan and the official GOP platform. Frank Guinta is a right wing extremist on many fronts. I'll go with the 93% vote with Rep. Pelosi. In Congress, Carol championed middle-class families, backing legislation to boost the minimum wage, expand children’s health insurance and student loans, and protect a woman’s right to choose. A key supporter of fair pay and health care reform measures, Carol also voted to expand small business loans and pushed numerous bills to assist veterans and their families. She championed a provision to protect our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan from the dangers of toxic waste burn pits. Carol is one of the few in Congress who doesn't take any corporate money. Thanks to the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, shadowy right wing and big business groups are now flooding the New Hampshire airwaves with sleazy and dishonest ads against Carol.

Like Todd Akin and Paul Ryan, Frank Guinta thinks women have no right to make decisions about their own bodies and their own health. No only did he vote to end social security as we know it and try to turn Medicare into a voucher program; Guinta voted with his GOP pals to ban some forms of contraception and access to abortions for rape and incest victims. He has breathtaking contempt for women and their needs. No wonder he has fallen behind in all the polls. On election day women will remember and send him back home to Manchester.

I hope they do too. Carol Shea-Porter voted for a bill that ensures you can still get medical coverage even with a pre-existing condition. It ensures that parents can continue covering their children up to the age of 26. It ensures that, eventually, everyone can get health coverage. It aids seniors in obtaining prescription drugs.

Yes, I hope everyone knows that Carol Shea-Porter supported this bill!

Atlant. If socialized medicine is so good why do so many people with socialized medicine from other countries come here for their healthcare? Because they have such a long wait to see a doctor. Doctors don't want to be told how much they can make, or the government will tell patients what operations they can or can't have. I know a doctor who came to this country from Canada to escape that system. Old people will be judged by ''quality life years left''. The government wants to run your healthcare and they can't even run the post office at a profit. Keep living in your little fantasy world and drinking obama's Kool-aid.

That occurs far less than you might think (and rich people will always find ways to pay to "jump lines" when it suits their needs).

In fact, it probably occurs less-often these days than Americans leaving the country to have medical and dental procedures performed in foreign climes because that's where they can afford to have them done.

Here's a story about a woman whose insurance company's death panel (well, in her case permanent disability panel) wouldn't pay for her hip replacement because they deemed her to have a "pre-existing condition". So she went to India to have the hip replacement done.

It's *EXACTLY* this sort of thing that will be minimized by the ACA ("Obamacare").

How many town halls has Frank Guinta held since took office in Washington on January 3, 2012? Ten? Five? None? You can always tell a politician's true nature by what they criticize the other side for. How accessible is Gunita? He cancelled an ice cream social (and forgot to tell Tim Pawlenty!) because he was afraid of being photographed with protesters in the background. Good old Gutless Guinta.

Actually, petitegirl, if you knew anything about economics that a national healthcare system (which is NOT what Obamacare is; it is a rather conservative health insurance scheme modeled after a plan by the Cato Institute, a rightwing libertarian think tank) provides a subsidy to businesses that boosts their international competitiveness and creates more jobs. It was either the Clinton Administration of George W. Bush that threatened to sue Canada before GATT on the grounds that its national healthcare system (called Medicare, btw, and founded by Keifer Sutherland's grandfather) was an illegal trade subsidy.

Obamacare is actually less onerous than Romneycare -- remember that issue the Republican presidential candidates were excoriating Mitt over a few months ago? Since the prudent Roberts decision upheld Obamacare but struck down provisions that would have coerced states to participate, you have, in essence, Mitt Romney's stated position on the campaign trail, forthwith, that Romneycare was right for Massachusetts but other states should be free to have their own solutions. That Mitt wold then denounced the Roberts decision is inexplicable unless you realize he would say or do anything to be president.

Romneycare is more onerous than Obamacare as it imposes actual fines on non-users whereas Obamacare does not.
