Oh, get real. The $1.95 price was an anomaly caused by factors way out of the White House's control, following a upward spiral that ended in the four dollar range. Gas prices in the US are still much lower than the peak during the Bush43 administration. There is no such thing as energy independence as along as you depend on fossil fuels for that energy, because fossil fuels are a finite resource, and when they're gone, they'll be gone for millions of years--long after humans have disappeared. Depleting resources always increase in price over time, and there's not a thing in the world Romney or Obama can do about that.

Also, Americans have been coddled by cheap oil prices. Try buying gas in Europe, where the average price per gallon is around $7.00. Having been to Europe twice in the last fifteen months, I've seen how that continent has adapted by downsizing their energy needs--smaller cars, wind farms, huge solar energy fields, and increased use of hydro power. They GET IT! We just keep consuming as if there's no tomorrow.

Now, you will argue that Chus said this in 2008, before he was energy secretary, but, Obama chose him to join his administration with full knowledge that Chu believes in highetr gas prices.
Secondly, gas is made from oil. Oil is bought and sold in US dollars around the world. As such, the price of oil is tied to the US dollar. QE1, 2 and now 3 have increased the amount of dollars in the world, thus devalueing the dollar. As a result, oil prices rose accordingly.

The auto plant closed in April 2009. When Obama was President. So, everyone, why is the plant still closed? After all, the US taxpayer is the largest stockholder in GM and the Obama administration has members in management and on the board at GM. Bill Clinton signed the trade agreement with China, which I blame as the biggest factor in our failed economy today. This allowed China to take away a huge percentage of our manufacturing jobs. Until this trade agreement is dissolved, our unemployment will never get any better.

And as far as I can see, the easiest way to fix our economy is to kill the trade agreements with China, and possibly Mexico also. That is the ONLY way that we will bring manufacturing back to this country. What does that mean? It means we create our own products. It means millions and millions of new jobs. It means people will be working, not sitting at home collecting welfare and food stamps.

Secondly, Obama said that he wanted prices to be lower.
Third of all, if you were paying attention to the speeches being made, The Democrats made it clear that they created and saved jobs, that we are not using gas from other places as much and that Romney was the one that was not being supportive of the Democrats trying to make things here instead of relying on China.

I don't recall Obama specifically stating that we should be paying more for gas, he did say that he wanted gas to be at $4 per gallon, but that was based off of gas that was basically already hitting the margin. Also, he did state that he wanted gas prices to be lower because he understood that the cost were hurting families and making things a little difficult. Secondly, how could that ever justify Bush and i don't know where you live but I don't recall things getting better when Bush left. You can't put America in this kind of situation where things will definitely get worst before they ever get better and miraculously manage to fix a few things before the end of your presidency.

Maya, you seem to have the memory loss. The budget was going to be balanced, NOT. unemployment was going to be 5.something, NOT. we do have an increase though and that is food stamps! In 3+ years Obama has increased the debt almost twice as much as Bush did in 8 years. He promised those things, and I can understand not getting all the goals accomplished, but he has made everything WORSE...
