Ron Paul Wins NH Straw Poll

The Texas congressman won Saturday's New Hampshire Young Republicans Straw Poll by a commanding margin.

Ron Paul got a great birthday present Saturday, as the 76-year-old defeated 11 other Republicans in Saturday's New Hampshire Young Republicans Straw Poll.

Paul, a congressman from Texas, won a commanding 45 percent of the vote and bested runner-up Mitt Romney by 35 percent despite not attending the event, which was held in New Castle and also included a lobster bake.

There were 302 ballots cast Saturday, and the full vote results are as follows, in the order the candidates were listed on the ballot: Jon Huntsman - 3 percent ; Herman Cain - 5 percent; Rick Perry - 8 percent; Fred Karger - 0 percent ; Paul - 45 percent; Mitt Romney - 10 percent; Thaddeus McCotter - 8 percent; Rick Santorum - 3 percent; Michele Bachmann - 5 percent; Buddy Roemer - 3 percent; Gary Johnson - 6 percent; and Newt Gingrich - 1 percent.

Rudy Giuliani and Paul Ryan each received 1 percent of the vote as write-in candidates, while another 1 percent was comprised of candidates who received less than 1 percent, according to event officials.

Gingrich, Perry, Romney and Santorum all were unrepresented at Saturday's event, as no one spoke on their behalf and none had a table at the event.

State Sen. Jim Forsythe spoke on behalf of Paul.

Saturday's event, which drew roughly 350 people, also featured a vote for New Hampshire governor.

More to come.

They don't look odd at all, it looks like the people know exactly what they want and are sick of status quo candidates and hollow talking points.

Yeah, because business credentials are what the founders of this country envisioned for the commander in chief. Perhaps its the business credentials - their uncomfortably close relationship with banks and corporations thats part of the problem. We should consider prioritizing who we select as President based on their understanding of history and economics - and with that understanding use their respect for the Constitution to sign into law or vito bills that take the burden off of the average person rather than favoring corporations.

To bad people don't see things that clearly, with 20% unemployment and 80 million entitlement checks pumped out by the US treasury per month not to mention the escalating cost of health insurance. You can argue that a good majority of voters have a vested interest in maintaining The Big Government Nanny State. The fear of not having and/or not getting help from Uncle Sam will eventually bankrupt us all.

Thanks for supporting Dr Paul, Charles... he certainly conforms more to the Democrat platform than does Obama! He also conforms more to the Republican platform than any other candidate. How's that possible? Because the party platforms appeal to the people but the mainstream candidates are all fascists! Ron Paul is the man of the people!

Odd? What's odd? These results are completely consistent with the rest of the straw polls. Ron Paul is the obvious choice. He is the only candidate that evil & corrupt Washington DC hasn't corrupted. The proof is in his positions. His positions don't exactly empower the stats quo which is corrupt. All the other candidates' positions and resumes empower the status quo - Romneycare, endless war, fascism through the Patriot Act, IRS ties, the oligarchy via federal reserve. Why is the Republican Party afraid of constitutional govt?

I'm a liberal who has always respected Ron Paul and he, more than any other Republican, has crossed party lines to work with Democrats on issues where he and they see eye to eye. I like the way that he and Barney Frank have worked with other liberal and conservative members of Congress to constructively reduce defense spending, promote civil liberties, curb tragic, unnecessary and costly wars and other items. The main stream media is doing to Ron Paul what they did to Howard Dean in 2004 and Ralph Nader in 2000.

Elizabeth Gerhardt, first it was ignore and say he can't win. That did not work so now the completely baseless charges of racism or some other silly thing. Ron Paul is a space alien, a reptoid--why not throw these wacky aspersions in with your false charge Elizabeth? People have awaken to your smear tactics Elizabeth. Ron Paul cares greatly about all Americans regardless of race/religion etc. Listen to his speeches and watch his interviews and this fact will be confirmed. The good doctor is attempting to save this country from complete financial implosion and prevent the development of a police state.

For a complete understanding of all Dr. Paul's beliefs and how they confirm FREEDOM & LIBERTY, I recommend viewing the Concord Monitor interview with the editorial board. Excellent! Just Google/YouTube it to watch.

The only candidate from either side of the isle who dares to tell the truth. If Americans would stop being idiots, get educated about what's really behind our steep decline, they would see that Paul is the only one capable of leading us out of the foreign and domestic mess we've gotten ourselves into in the past 30 years.

As a constituent, I could tell you some stories of things the establishment has done to Dr. Paul down here, but I will leave that for someone else.
But what I will write about are the things he is known for here.

Ron Paul and his partner ran his Ob Gyn practice for decades. At one point it was a running joke that "Paul had delivered half his votes by hand!"lol
He can not go to a local rally or even out for dinner with his wife, Carol- with out some twenty something sneeking him out of the blue and hugging him and saying "Thank You for bringing me into the world Dr. Paul"!
It has been well known in our parts that Dr. Paul will not accept medicare or medicade at his OB GYN practice.
He views this money as stolen by government for one person, to pay for someone else- so he doesnt accept it and never has.
In stead he will serve a poor or handicapped pregnant woman for the entire nine months, deliver and then make follow ups- FOR FREE- and does this often.

Dr. Paul lives appx 2 hours southeast of Houston.
Houston Intercontinental Airport is appx 2 hours north of Houston.
Several times a year, Dr. Paul will pick up his youngest granddaughter and together they will travel 5-6 hours ONE WAY through our HUGE district, simply to meet a returning soldier at the GATE to give him the medals he has won in combat, in front of the soldiers family.

“Ron Paul’s message of traditional conservatism -- fiscal restraint, limited government, and strong national defense -- is clearly the future of the Republican Party,” said NH Chairman and State Senator Jim Forsythe, who spoke on behalf of Congressman Paul at the Straw Poll. “The other candidates know that and sound more like him every day. But there are convenient copies, and there’s the real thing.

“It takes more than a sound bite and a flip-flop to fool New Hampshire voters. That’s why there’s real momentum here for Ron Paul.”

Bob Minkwic/Detroit...Perhaps,anybody who questions the concepts and policies espoused by Ron Paul just isn't sure about the difference between right & wrong.Or maybe our semi-literate population has thier outlook so jumbled by the bullshit fed them on a daily basis that they're actually confused about the meaning of the word 'liberty's and what it entails.Liberty America! Google it people! Of course, liberty means personal responsibility, another concept we've lost touch with. The ongoing housing crisis is a direct result of a lack of personal responsibility .(For one thing, your home is not an ATM and your address is not the same as your PIN number.)People in Syria are being shot down in thier own neighborhoods,as I write this, because they demand liberty.Shot down in cold blood while seeking the liberty we are letting erode while we take it for granted.Very simply, support for Ron Paul is acting in support of liberty without being shot at.The positive note is that he is the candidate favored by the rank & file of our military.People who see, firsthand, the disaster of our foriegn policy. As well as our young people here at home. The ones who know that they will have to clean up the selfish financial mess we've left them.

Dr. Paul would NEVER blame the people for the corrupt system we are dictated to be a part of.
He knows the system is rigged against the little guy who wanted a good interest rate on his first home or would do anything to be a home owner, including fudge an application or lie about income. He is understanding to the fact this is how society has raised us and he feels sorry for us. Genuinely..

Dr. Paul places the blame directly at the feet of government intervention by creating a moral hazard in requiring banks to lend to those who otherwise would or could not afford a home on their own. Were it not for government intervention, a bank would not have lent to these people.
Dr. Paul blames the lack of adherence to our Constitution and knows it is THE GOVERNMENT that does not follow the Constitution, not the people.
The Constitution was created TO KEEP THE GOVERNMENT in check and to bind them in chains with what they can do.

Before you go blaming the poor black kids or the illegal alien who may have slipped under our radar- for the housing crisis, why dont you blame the corrupt banksters and wall streeters first.
THE TRILLIONS they have stolen and squandered makes the housing bubble look like fly shit.
I know there are people who get free Phones and food stamps and everything else from the US government. So what. Who cares?
End the militarism FIRST, then we can talk about ending poor peoples programs at home.

Bob Minkwic/Detroit...ATTN:Galveston Tea; With all due respect, what the hell are you talking about? The housing crisis has nothing to do with 'poor black kids and illegal aliens'.In fact you'll be happy to know that the housing crisis will be part of the reason that we won't be able to afford militarism in the future. As for the poor black kids, here in Detroit they're just trying to stay alive. And 'aliens' are from other planets. The people who are here without the proper government paperwork are able to remain here in part because of the so what who cares programs you refer to.And I can hardly imagine that Ron Paul condones the lack of personal responsibility that is a big part of the aforementioned crisis. But you seem to be condoning behavior by people who falsified legal documents to live beyond thier means with no regard for people who saved for a down payment & busted thier assess to pay thier bills. These people had thier property values destroyed by thier financially careless neighbors.Regardless of the tyranny of big government or the greed of the banking industry,WE THE PEOPLE have a personal responsibility to conduct ourselves properly.Blaming the government is a copout. If the government directed banks to give out free hammers to people that claimed to be carpenters should we feel sorry for the liars who smashed thier thumbs & fingers? The people really hurt would be the actual carpenters and of course those of us paying the bill.
