Boy to Shoot 2K Baskets in Mom's Honor

It'll benefit a hospital fund started by his mom, who succumbed to breast cancer in 2009.

[Editor's note: This is a release from Exeter Hospital. We will have a story of our own and video at some point soon.]

Liam Viviano hopes to shoot 2,000 baskets on the basketball court to raise money for local oncology patients in need.

His goal is not related to helping his team win their games, but instead to help local cancer patients win theirs. Viviano is working to raise money for the Beyond the Rainbow Fund at Exeter Hospital, which was started by his mother Anne-Marie Viviano as a way to help oncology patients of the hospital in need by providing assistance with practical needs that can become unmanageable for patients and families during treatment.

Donations to the fund have provided everything from help with heating bills, groceries and wigs to help with transportation and fuel assistance.

Anne-Marie lost her courageous 14-year battle with breast cancer in 2009 and Liam wants to help keep her dream for the Beyond the Rainbow fund moving forward.

He is organizing Hoops for a Cure, an event in which he is seeking sponsors to support him as he shoots 2,000 baskets. Every shot missed is worth one penny while every shot made is worth two pennies.

He will begin his fundraiser on Friday, Jan. 13, during halftime of the girls varsity basketball game and end during halftime of the Winnacunnet boys varsity basketball game on Friday, Jan. 20.

Donations to support Liam in his efforts can be made payable to Exeter Hospital and sent to Liam Viviano P.O. Box 548 Hampton, NH 03842.
