LETTER: Why Your Recycling Cart Wasn't Emptied

The latest recycling news focuses on some FAQs.

Frequently Asked Questions about trash and recycling carts:

Q  Where do I get carts?
A  At the Hampton Transfer Station on Hardardt’s Way.

Q  What size carts do I need?
A  There are 3 sizes (35, 64, and 96 gallons) of carts for both trash and recycling.     Recycling is green and trash is blue.

Q. Can I change the size of my carts if I see, once I really start recycling, that I have less trash and more recycling?  Many of us are already seeing this!
A  Yes,   just take your cleaned cart to the transfer station for an exchange.

Q.  My cart wasn’t picked up, WHY?
A.   If either your trash or recycling cart is not picked up, it should have had a sticker placed on it by the driver explaining why.  However, things you can ask yourself are:  Were the carts placed at the curb?  Were they facing the curb properly, with the handles pointed away from the road?  Were the carts placed 2 to 3 feet away from each other and from trees or parked cars etc.?  Was there recycling in my trash?  Was there trash in my recycling?  Was it placed curbside by 5:00 a.m.?  Was it placed on the curb on the correct pickup day?  Was the lid of the cart closed, or were items sticking up out of the cart?  Were there items left outside of the cart? As they would not be picked up.  Was it an item that needs to be paid for at the transfer station?
