Forum Scheduled to Discuss Middle School's Future

A special public session has been scheduled for next week.

The Hampton School Board will host a special community forum next week at Hampton Academy to discuss developing plans for the future of the middle school.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4. The board and School Administrative Unit 90 have listened to community members speak about their preferences for Hampton Academy, which will likely need major renovations or a complete replacement soon due to several issues with the structure — issues which have been outlined through earlier steps in the planning process.

A building committee has been formed to evaluate structure requirements and to conduct the studies necessary to formulate a formal plan for the building. The committee, according to the school board, has completed this work and will take public input on April 4 about the facility's needs.

Members of the public are welcome to take a guided tour of the building at 6 p.m. on April 4. The forum will then commence at 7 and will feature architects, an overview of the process and analysis completed thus far, as well as a public comment period.

With no state aid, it will be a long time before Hampton voters support any warrant article that calls for 26-28 million bucks for a rehab or a new Hampton Academy......start over and look to dramatically reduce the projected cost..........

At the last meeting about Hampton Academy the lack of aid was discussed. If I remember correctly, the Superintendent mentioned that by the time we are ready to move forward with building we will be able to obtain state aid again. I'm sure it will be discussed at the next meeting. Before we ask them to start over we should see what they propose so we can all make an informed decision.
