Blood Clot Removed from Matt Denis' Head

The Winnacunnet student had "successful" surgery Sunday.

A 16-year-old Winnacunnet High School student who was hit by a car while riding his bike Thursday had a blood clot removed from his head Sunday, according to a source close to the family.

Matt Denis, of Seabrook, has been in critical condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass., since being airlifted to the hospital after the Thursday afternoon crash, which occurred on Lafayette Road in Seabrook.

Classmate and friend Chris Silver confirmed Monday afternoon that Denis, who wasn't wearing a helmet during the crash, had "successful" surgery.

Further updates about Denis' condition weren't available. Hospital staff didn't return calls seeking comment, and Denis' immediate family have declined comment outside of the statements made Friday during an emotional vigil for the teen.

Students are raising money for the Denis family through a variety of ways. Special bracelets are being sold for $4, and anyone interested in purchasing one can contact Silver at 205-9840.

Also, another vigil is in the works, although there was no date set as of Monday. A 3v3 basketball tournament is also planned for the near future.

A 3v3 basketball tournament is in the works, and may be held this weekend. Also, school administrators are still working with the Denis family to organize a vigil for the teen.

May I suggest that you change the part in the title from "Crash Victim," to "Teenage Fighter." As that is what he is. There were many who gave up on him, but he showed up and denied that. God bless you and your family Matt. Positive thoughts and prayers continue to flow your way.
