Area Youth Coach Indicted on Child Sex Charges

New federal and county charges join a long list of child molestation charges against a man who taught local athletes.

New federal child exploitation charges have been levied against a man awaiting trial on charges he sexually assaulted some of the athletes he coached, according to the Hampton Union.

Robert A. Joubert, 59, a youth baseball coach who lives in Manchester and , was recently indicted in U.S. District Court in Concord on one count of possession of child pornography, one count of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and three counts of sexual exploitation of children, according to the Union.

Joubert reportedly entered a not guilty plea to the charges on Nov. 20, and a trial has been scheduled for Jan. 8.

The Concord Monitor has reported the transportation charge stems from between February 1996 and December 1997 when Joubert allegedly took a boy under the age of 18 to New York to engage in sexual activity with him.

The new child pornography charges stem from an accusation that Joubert allegedly persuaded another minor to masturbate on camera between both November 2002 and April 2003 and between September 2003 and August 2004, according to the Monitor. The Monitor has reported the indictments also allege Joubert filmed a “lewd” depiction of the boy's genitals between November 2002 and April 2003.

Joubert has already been charged with sexually assaulting four young boys, although it was unclear Tuesday whether the new victims are among the group of victims who have already come forward.

The Concord Monitor has also reported that statements from one of the four victims has also lead to a new, graphic Merrimack County-level indictment alleging Joubert made sexual contact with an underage high school girl he met while working as a teacher's aide at Pittsfield High School. Joubert allegedly befriended the teen and her mother, and allegedly raped her numerous times while she lived with Joubert over a two-month period between Feb. 12, 1999 and April 5, 1999, according to the Monitor.

Police still believe there may be more victims.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt; rather, it means a grand jury believed there was sufficient evidence to warrant a trial.
